HIV Awareness Has Helped Win the Battle for HIV Babies

Incidence of HIV in babies during first year of life has decreased from 8.4 per 100,000 in 1992 to 5.1 per 100,000 in 1995. On the statistical comparison pages (today 10,000 babies were born), this would lower the number of babies born with HIV from 4 (old Center for Disease Control figures of 1,500 per year) to less than one per day, around 200 a year, compared to 2,000 a year in the early 1990's.

"These incidence figures are offered not as established facts
but to emphasize the magnitude of a problem that has
serious implications - for the individual and for society. "
