Could My Child Have FASD ?
There is reason to
believe my child has been prenatally exposed to alcohol and I have noticed the
following behaviors in my child?
Attention and focus issues
- Seems agitated and unable to settle
down
- Has difficulty playing
independently
- Talks too much
- Acts without thinking
- Is easily distracted
- Is unable to sit still
- Inability to unwind or calm self
Education issues
- Requires constant reminders of
daily events
- Seems to constantly be learning
previously learned skills
- Seems to lack the motivation to
learn
- Is a slow learner
- Delays in academic achievement
- No or limited concept of time or
money
Social issues
- Doesn't seem to understand social
rules and expectations
- Has difficulty keeping or making
friends
- Requires constant supervision
- Doesn't seem to learn from making
mistakes or from punishment
- Seems to alienate loved ones
- Is often aggressive and physical
- Can say what is expected, but can't
follow through
- Has tantrums that cannot be
controlled (rages)
Sensitivity issues
- Resists change in daily routines,
activities, or environments
- Has a low frustration level
- Is over stimulated in shopping
areas or public areas
- Overly sensitive to touch, movement, sights,
smells, or sounds
- Under reactive to touch, movement, sights
smells, or sounds
Physical issues
- Has problems going to sleep
- Has some unusual physical
characteristics
- Experiences eating difficulties
- Over reacts or under reacts to pain
These
behaviors have often been observed in children who where prenatally exposed to
alcohol.
